WATER, WIND AND REEDS
-
ESSAY BY GREGOR SLOSS
Water, Wind and Reeds is a series of pencil drawings of the rivers and streams of East Lothian, later revisited and reworked by Martin in his studio. They mark a return to field work and to drawing, and to the intense, concentrated looking on which drawing is founded. On this, Martin liked to quote the sculptor Tony Cragg: 'ordinary human comprehension is made extraordinary by concentration'.
