CONCRETIONS

In his Concretions Paul Martin was concerned less with the appearance of things than with their history and substance, the way they coalesce and grow around the power of the creative logos; he was looking through the landscape to what Gérard Manley Hopkins called the inscape. These are works interested in materiality and meaning, but meaning expressed always through and in the material, works interested in the 'gritty sacredness of things'.
