MUNDI
-
ESSAY BY GREGOR SLOSS
The works which Martin grouped together under the heading Mundi explore the ways we measure, map and represent the landscape. The title refers to the mediaeval mappa mundi tradition which arranged the world a network of spiritually significant places, with Jerusalem at its centre; more broadly these works are concerned with the disjunction between the map and territory, and how the frame through which we view the world transforms our understanding of it.
